In a 16-month period the MSc in Sports Industry Management program will give you the opportunity to study the sports and outdoor industry within an international framework, and help you build a strong career in this highly coveted sector.
The program is divided into three time periods, during which students get to study in Lyon (France), the Alps (France), and on EMLYON’s Asian Campus in Shanghai. From learning how to apply management knowledge specifically to the sports and outdoor industry, to getting deeply involved with a business project, students will graduate with all the necessary skills and knowledge to build a successful career.
What will you study?
Each part of the program has its own set of courses, giving students a wide perspective on the industry and its career possibilities.
In order to acquire the right management tools from the start, students of the MSc in Sports Industry Management first study the fundamentals of international management in Lyon through the module ‘The Global Issues of Management in a Multi-Cultural Environment’.
Once students arrive in the Alps, they get a different perspective on the industry thanks to many company visits, expert lectures and specialist workshops. This is a great opportunity for students to start building a professional network and get a deeper look into their future career.
The last part of the programme, taking place at EMLYON’s Asian Campus in Shanghai, helps students gain more practical and international experience. The ‘Business and the Sports and Outdoor Industry in Asia’ module allows students to gain first-hand experience of turning an idea into a tangible project, while understanding the dos and don’ts of the Chinese market.
Who will you meet?
Students of the MSc in Sports Industry Management have many opportunities to meet experts in the field.
While in the Alps, the class of 2012-2013 was introduced to Franz Julen, CEO of IIC-INTERSPORT, a successful entrepreneur and a sportsman himself. He presented to the class the strategy of IIC-INTERSPORT and shared his overall experience as an entrepreneur. Other guest lecturers this year included the owner and marketing manager of Snowleader.com, the head of digital marketing and e-commerce at Salomon, and the EMEA retail director of Oakley.
Where will you travel?
Not only do students get to meet experts and participate in interactive workshops and business projects, but they experience the industry, and travel to different events and markets.
In February, the MSc in Sports Industry Management students took part in ISPO, the international multi-segment trade show for sports business in Munich, and visited Sympatex, a leading global supplier of high-tech functional materials.
They were also able to get a retailing tour in Chamonix, France. In a few weeks time they will attend this year’s X-Games in Tignes, a competition of extreme sports, and they will go to Sport Achat, an international exhibition dedicated to the professional sportswear industry.
Students’ feedback on company visits:
"The Chamonix visit right after the sessions was what I appreciated the most: learn and do, lots of examples and discussions." - Pierre
"It's great to attend such an important event for the industry; it gives us a clear vision of the market.” - Yu
"Really interesting! It opened my mind on new perspectives." - Laurianne
After finishing the 16-month course period, students of the MSc in Sports Industry Management complete an internship. The possibilities are endless in terms of location, which allows them to further their international experience beyond the program.
What about your future? Would you like to be part of the MSc in Sports Industry Management class of 2013-14?
