Two universities, National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, both consistently rank among the top 50 universities in the world.

Location

The main campuses for National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University are located very close to each other: just over seven miles of distance between the two main campuses. 

National University of Singapore is located in the central region of Singapore in Queenstown, an exciting area for students to explore with iconic landmarks such as Gardens by the Bay, which has a variety of artistic installations including the super tree orchard, flower dome and cloud forest.  

Merlion Park has a beautiful natural landscape with a waterfront view and plenty of history. The National Museum of Singapore and the Art Science Museum also give students insight into the country’s culture. Students may also enjoy seeing the Spectra light and water show which takes place over Marina Bay. 

Nanyang Technological University is in the western region of the country. West Singapore has plenty to offer, especially for nature lovers.  

Jurong Lake is popular among locals, students and tourists alike. You can rent a kayak and take part in water sports or just enjoy the beautiful surroundings at the eco-gardens nearby.  

Jurong Bird Park is also popular with anyone who want to know more about the local wildlife and the Science Centre has 12 galleries and exhibits covering a range of related subjects. 

Funding

There are several scholarship options available for anyone wanting to study in Singapore. Students from ASEAN countries can apply for a scholarship through the Singaporean Ministry of Education. There are links for applications from each country on the government website.  

International students from other countries and domestic students can also apply for government funded scholarships. The Ministry of Education Tuition Grant Scheme is available for both domestic and international students who are studying an undergraduate degree. The grant amount that students can expect to receive will depend on their citizenship and course of study.  

International students studying a PhD can also apply for a Singapore International Graduate Award (SINGA) which covers tuition and living expenses. Students are eligible to apply for the SINGA if they are applying for their first PhD, have adequate English language proficiency and a strong academic background in science, engineering or biomedical research. 

National University of Singapore offers a variety of scholarships to undergraduate students. Nanyang Technological University also offer scholarships for both graduates and undergraduates

All scholarships are only available to students who are Singaporean nationals or permanent residents unless specified otherwise. 

Student community

The student population at National University of Singapore is just over 50,000 with 31,500 undergraduate students and 20,100 graduate students across each of their three campuses.  

National University of Singapore is committed to ensuring that students have infrastructure that allows them to have a good quality of life including plenty of accommodation options and transportation. They also have the opportunity to explore their extracurricular interests and make connections with others.  

NUS offers performing arts, volunteering and sporting opportunities to its students with clubs and communities which allow students to connect with others. 

Nanyang Technological University is a smaller school with around 35,000 students across two campuses. They emphasise the importance of community to their students through their many student organisations with themes such as leadership development, sports, life skills, volunteering, language, religion and many more.
