The exhaustion of fossil fuel reserves and the environmental issues associated with the utilisation of these energy resources make it necessary for us to explore how we can find other sources of energy. This can be done by developing new conversion technologies and new fossil fuels derived from e.g. biomass, waste, by-products of different industrial processes or from atmospheric sources, such as the sun, the wind and the oceans.  The specialisation in Thermal Energy and Process Engineering focuses on these alternative energy sources to ensure that we have capable engineers in this field in the future. The ability to design new, innovative energy technologies and systems will be decisive in the future where competition both in terms of efficiency and environmental issues will be fierce in order to meet market and society requirements.
