In the Bachelor of Medicine program, you first learn about the healthy human being. Through courses such as cell biology, genetics, anatomy, biochemistry and physiology, you gain a deep understanding of how the human body works. You then learn about diseases and how to treat them. You are trained to create a good relationship with patients and you gain knowledge of the Danish healthcare system. Once you know the basic theory, you have the opportunity to use your knowledge in practice both in teaching and in connection with a clinical internship.

Everyday life at Medicine
The teaching in the Bachelor of Medicine program alternates between lectures, group lessons and practical exercises. During the Bachelor, you will also have the opportunity to do a short clinical internship. In order to get the basic theory in place, you must acquire a large amount of knowledge. Many people experience a steep learning curve, where it is often a good idea to have a study group with whom you can spar.

Knowledge, dedication and detective work
A disease is rarely exactly as it appears in the books. There are always more or fewer symptoms, and it takes a great deal of background knowledge, commitment, and thorough detective work to understand the problem and how it can be best solved. In order to prepare you as well as possible for your work as a doctor, the study places great demands on your time, discipline, and memory. Medicine is also a constantly evolving profession, where new diseases and new forms of treatment are constantly being discovered, so you must be ready to continue your education throughout your medical career.

You are trained to treat people.
The bachelor's degree forms the foundation for the master's degree in medicine, where there is a particular focus on you gaining experience with the doctor's daily workflow through skills training (on mannequins and fellow students) and in connection with clinical internships. During clinical internships, you use your theoretical and practical skills, and you practice preventing, diagnosing and treating diseases. You also learn to communicate appropriately with patients, relatives and colleagues.

Career opportunities
If you want to become a doctor, after completing your bachelor's degree in medicine, you must complete a three-year master's degree in medicine. When you are a newly qualified doctor after six years of study, you will have to wait a number of years for further training before you are qualified to be a specialist. The work as a specialist is typically done in the health sector as a hospital doctor or as a general practitioner. You can also use your education to become a researcher at a university, or you can work in the pharmaceutical industry.
