What has become the Colorado Film School at the Community College of Aurora started as a “Camera-ready” program initiated by the Colorado Film Commission and taken up by Red Rocks Community College in the early 1990’s. A few courses in the Theater department grew into the Film Video Technology program at Red Rocks headed-up by Frederic Lahey.
Our students hail from Colorado, most of the states in the US and a wide variety of locations throughout the world. We have an excellent faculty of working professionals with impressive industry credentials and connections, who are skilled teachers and mentors. Many have MFA degrees from the finest film schools in the world. All of our faculty and all of our courses focus on the primacy of story and the development of a unique voice in each of our students.
Colorado Film School was ranked by The Hollywood Reporter as among the top 25 film schools in the world in 2011, and among the top 25 film schools in the US by the Hollywood Reporter in 2013, 2014 and 2015. In 2015 CFS was also picked as a top US film school by Variety and Backstage.
