The Department of Nuclear, Plasma and Radiological Engineering offers both a traditional doctoral program and a direct doctoral program.  The traditional doctoral program requires candidates enter with an approved master's degree. The direct doctoral program allows highly qualified applicants with a B.S. degree to be admitted directly into the Ph.D. program without an M.S. degree. Research activities in the department encompass a diverse range of investigation and challenge areas inclduing, but not limited to: radiation processes and transport, thermal sciences, energy conversion processes and systems, fusion energy, dosimetry and radiation protection, radiation detection analysis, energy systems, and international security. Graduate students are active participants and contributors to these areas of education and research and typically pursue careers in one of these areas.

You must have been awarded (or are about to be awarded) a four-year bachelor's degree equivalent to that granted by the University of Illinois to be eligible for graduate programs at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. If your undergraduate degree is a three-year program, you are not eligible for graduate-level admissions consideration at the University of Illinois.
