Kolej Universiti Islam Perlis (KUIPs)

Kolej Universiti Islam Perlis (KUIPs) was established on 3rd March 2013 by the Federal government under the Malaysian prime minister, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak in the blessed land of Perlis.

The state of Perlis, over the past decade, has been striving to become a prominent educational hub with the core motto of “Perlis: State of Knowledge”. Among other things, Perlis aims to attract prospective students who will become the catalyst for the economic development and to create an avant-garde future for the social communities. One way of achieving this is through the introduction of the concept of education through the institution of Waqf and an endowment of fund that would be at the core of a new centre of learning. The concept of Waqf and an endowment fund as the foundation of such centre would make studying at the institution more efficient and affordable.

It is on this basis that the KUIPs was established. KUIPs comes under the auspices of the Council of Religion and Malay Custom Perlis (MAIPs) with HRH Tuanku Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, as the principal patron. KUIPs offers distinctive and strategic programmes to produce students who are knowledgeable, ethical and trustworthy. The overflow of international students, which is in tandem with the globalization boom, supplies talents for local and international markets, and is among the reasons that supports the existence of KUIPs. KUIPs’ strategic location in the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Golden Triangle (IMT-GT) also makes it an important key to success of the ASEAN agenda which was planned during the leadership of Tun Abdul Razak in the ‘70s. The total population of the region, which is in excess of 70 million, is a huge opportunity that should be used as effectively as possible.

KUIPs will be steered by the big names in the national education industry, individuals with experience and determination who will be instrumental in charting the success of this institution, hopefully within a short period of time. Support from all parties, particularly the state government, will expedite matters. Close relationship with several universities in Perlis also creates healthy competition and help to complement each other
