The master's degree in Biological and Environmental Engineering, worth 90 ECTS credits, is a master's degree which combines the synergies of two emerging disciplines with a very promising future: Biological Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Both are studied in depth from the point of view of a Chemical Engineer. The overall objective of the master's degree in Biological and Environmental Engineering is to train professionals and researchers who are capable of integrating advanced concepts in chemical engineering into the design of solutions for the research, development and operation of processes using microorganisms and their biological components in the areas of industrial biotechnology and environmental engineering. You will acquire the training needed to form part of businesses from the biotechnological and/or environmental sector with the aim of improving the existing services by offering an innovative view with a solid base in chemical engineering. Professionally, you will be capable of designing efficient and sustainable effluent and residue treatment systems, planning and controlling environmental management systems and applying molecular biology and methodological principles which support microorganisms for applications in the biotechnological sector.

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements are those set down in the Royal Decree 1393/2007, which states that students must be in possession of an official Bachelor's degree issued by a Spanish university or other EHEA institution. You must have a degree in the field of chemical engineering and without the need of any additional training.

Other students interested in taking the master's degree and who do not need additional training are:

  • graduates from a non-EHEA country, as set down in the Royal Decree 1393/2007, who can accredit that their level of studies corresponds to the same university studies in Spain and that their degree is valid for admission to postgraduate courses in the country in which it was issued.
  • superior chemical engineers
  • graduates in other areas with sufficient knowledge in chemical engineering through academic courses or professional experience
For those from other areas, such as industrial engineers, chemical specialists, graduates in environmental sciences and biotechnology, and other scientific profiles such as physicists and chemists, the master's degree offers additional training in order to be admitted to the programme.

Finally, admittance will be given to graduates in all other areas, given that they fulfil the requirement of taking all additional training courses deemed necessary to acquire an adequate level of knowledge before beginning the master's degree.
