The M2 OSAE is a year of specialization in system engineering for scientific instrumentation embedded in space, or associated with large terrestrial astrophysical observatories. The M2 trains students who have previously completed an M1 in applied or fundamental physics, or a 4th/5th year of a general or specialized engineering school. These students initially receive basic training on five themes (optics, electronics, mechanics, signal processing, astronomy and space), as well as training in system engineering. These courses are supplemented by a series of courses in professional methods, including project management and management.

Secondly, students can select a set of specialized courses from several options offered (cryogenics, telecommunications, multi-wavelength detection, adaptive optics, digital embedded in space, etc.). These courses allow students to understand the latest developments in these cutting-edge sectors and to specialize according to their professional project.
Thirdly, the students carry out an internship of several months within a company, an agency or a laboratory, in order to put into practice their learning within the framework of a subject that must cover the different aspects of system engineering work – from the definition of needs at the start of the internship, to the production of validated deliverables at the end of the internship, including the identification, implementation and then evaluation of the appropriate technical solutions .
