The program offers a set of subjects that give the student important knowledge in all branches of philosophical knowledge: epistemology, ethics, philosophy of science, logic, metaphysics, and the philosophical roots of various philosophical trends. It offers subjects such as: Greek philosophy, Islamic philosophy, modern Arab thought, modern philosophy, contemporary philosophy, analytical philosophy It also offers a set of electives that deepen the student's understanding of the cognitive areas of philosophy. The Department of Philosophy currently has   nine permanent teachers, and it hopes to increase its teaching staff in the near future. From the beginning, the department has been committed to adopting diverse philosophical approaches and curricula, and to developing links between philosophy and other disciplines at the university. It offers a wide range of materials for undergraduate and postgraduate students, including doctoral students, who, at the end of their studies, submit research papers that hopefully will supplement the philosophical library with studies in different philosophical fields. As for the research specializations covered by the department, they are many and varied, including: Greek philosophy, Islamic philosophy, modern and contemporary Arab thought, philosophy of science, modern and contemporary philosophy. Critical theory and hermeneutic philosophies. Moral and political philosophy. Eastern philosophy These specialized sub-areas reflect the wide variety of what the department offers. There are traditional courses in their content that allow students to understand the nature of philosophical problems, explore new ways to address them, and present a new approach to approaching new philosophical questions and challenges that are today the subject of metro philosophical debate.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must submit the following documents:   1.    Original General Secondary Certificate (Tawjihi) certified by The Ministry of Education (for Jordanian certificates) or an equivalent issued by The Ministry of Education (for non-Jordanian certificates). 2.    Original Comprehensive Exam Certificate and original transcript properly certified by The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (for community college Diploma holders). 3.     An authenticated copy of both the civil identification card and Birth Certificate (for Jordanians). 4.     A copy of the passport (for non-Jordanians). 5.     Three photos. 6.     Original “Good Reputation and Conduct” document and an original certified   transcript   for those  who have been previously enrolled at institutions other than UJ.     NOTE: All accepted students are going to undertake an Arabic proficiency test, English proficiency test and computer skills proficiency test during their first semester.     (Testing dates will be announced at the website later on during the semester).
