Programme overview

Degree

BA

Study Level

Undergraduate

The Bachelor of Arts (Extended) provides a pathway for motivated and aspiring Indigenous students. It is a four-year Arts degree which includes a year of bridging subjects to ensure success in the most prestigious Arts degree in Australia. A key element of the Bachelor of Arts (Extended) is that this program is residential – students live in University residential colleges and benefit from all the extra support that colleges provide. Additional support services are available for all students through Murrup Barak, the Melbourne Institute of Indigenous Development and Murrup Barak Indigenous Student Programs. The aim of History and Philosophy of Science is to understand science; how it works, its historical development and its function in modern society. History and Philosophy of Science thus integrates philosophical, historical and sociological approaches to the study of science. It provides you with an insight into scientific methods and objectives without actually having to do science. You will gain analytical skills in evaluating scientific (and non-scientific) knowledge as well as a broad understanding of the historical development of science in its interactions with philosophy, religion and society.
