Cost of Living

At University of Staffordshire , we’re always looking at ways we can support our students and enable you to reach your full potential without barriers.

In response to the ongoing cost of living crisis, we’ve committed £500,000 to support students in need during these challenging times. We’ve teamed up with the Students’ Union to develop our ‘acting on cost’ programme, with a range of measures launched this term and others in the pipeline.

The support includes help with food:

  • Free cereal and toast  – The Students’ Union is providing the offer at Ember Lounge and Verve on our Stoke-on-Trent campus.
  • Oatcake discounts  – get the Staffordshire delicacy at a subsidised cost from our catering outlets.
  • Affordable snacks  – At our Stoke-on-Trent and London campuses, there is a rollover hot dog stand. You can get hot dogs for just £2.50 to eat in or grab and go. Halal, vegan and vegetarian options are available.
  • Too Good To Go scheme  – Download the app and you can buy and collect magic bags of food at great prices. We’re rolling out the scheme at our Stoke-on-Trent, Stafford and London campuses.
  • Buy what you need  – a zero-waste section is available at our College Road and Leek Road SU shops, allowing you to buy quantities that fit your budget.

We’ve also come up with other ways to help you save money and access warm spaces. Steps so far include:

  • Free period products  – These are available in toilet facilities at several Students’ Union venues. Our student support team is also making personal hygiene products and washing vouchers available free of charge for students.
  • Clothes swap shop  – These events, which also include table top sales, are being organised by the SU.
  • Extended opening hours  – The Catalyst building on the Stoke-on-Trent campus is now open 24/7 so you can access spaces that are safe, warm and conducive to studying.
  • Digital inclusion  – We’re helping to improve students’ digital access by providing grants for devices, as well as a package of support around digital and employability skills. This may include things like prepaid Wi-Fi dongles.

You can also get free financial advice and support through our partner, Blackbullion. Once you get your University email address, register with the platform and you’ll find lots of personal finance tips. Other features include information about scams, emergency funds, and a budget calculator.
