Delhi

Delhi, officially the National Capital Territory of Delhi (NCT), is the capital territory of India, consisting of 11 districts, including capital city New Delhi. Delhi is so huge that it’s said to be made up of seven cities, including the capital.

Delhi has had a long and politically significant history as the capital of several empires, destroyed and rebuilt several times in its centuries of existence. It’s now a cosmopolitan melting-pot of many ethnic groups and cultures, with Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi and English the most common languages you’ll hear.

Although the noise, chaos and traffic of the Delhi metropolitan area can seem overwhelming at first, as you settle in you’ll find there’s a huge amount of culture to explore, old and new. Visit fascinating ancient monuments, modern attractions such as the Lotus Temple, and great museums. Join in with religious festivals and national events, sample an array of street food, and check out the vibrant performing-arts scene.

For less stressful (and environmentally friendly) travel, make use of the city’s Metro system.

Delhi has no shortage of higher education institutions. The city is also a very affordable study destination – especially if you take advantage of street food – and most universities teach in English.
