For undergraduate history majors, our department combines the best of many worlds.

Our classes are small and interactive (typically well below 20 students), and our courses emphasize class discussion, intensive writing, and developing research skills. Our award-winning faculty members cultivate an atmosphere of open doors, easy access, and approachability. And the city of Washington serves as our laboratory and launching pad: many of our courses incorporate visits to archives and museums, and our majors frequently take advantage of the city’s wealth of opportunities by holding internships in government departments, nonprofit organizations, and historical institutions.

History majors at Catholic University have the opportunity to take courses and conduct research in a variety of historical fields, including medieval, modern European, U.S., and Latin American history. As they progress through the major, students are encouraged to take history courses abroad, as well as to participate in internships in Washington, D.C. as well as in other U.S. and international locations. Throughout the major, our faculty works one-on-one with students to help them develop valuable and marketable skills in research, writing, and analysis. As our many successful alumni can attest, the History Department at Catholic University is the perfect place for students who seek to understand the world by investigating its past.
