Studying Arabic at Dalhousie University means learning the official language of more than 20 countries around the world. In this Minor program you'll study Modern Standard Arabic, or literary Arabic, the present day Arabic language used in formal communications. 


Arabic Studies starts by exploring the foundations of the Arabic langauge. You'll dissect and learn Modern Standard Arabic, the language used in formal communication, as well as spoken Arabic. You'll be introduced to the Arab world by studying ancient and modern culture and civilization, daily life, religions and more. 


In your upper years you'll continue to build on the grammar and vocabulary from your introductory courses and discover specific regional dialects. You'll gain a broader understanding of the culture and read the works of great Muslim thinkers.
