DePaul University’s Sound Recording Technology (SRT) program is designed to prepare students for careers as sound engineers in the audio industry. While students in the School of Music follow a standard sequence of music courses, the SRT curriculum focuses extensively on contemporary music technology and sound engineering. Practical training takes place in state-of-the-art facilities such as the Murray and Michelle Allen recording suite, equipped with a NEVE console, Pro Tools recording setup, and Genelec surround sound monitoring. Students also gain experience in sound reinforcement and lighting within the Holtschneider Performance Center concert halls. Chicago’s vibrant music and theatre scene provides ample opportunities for students to engage with live performances across diverse genres, including major music festivals like Lollapalooza and Pitchfork, as well as theatrical productions ranging from drama to musical theatre, enhancing their educational experience with real-world exposure to industry practices and performances.
