The Bachelor of Education qualifies you to be a teacher in Australia, and many countries overseas. Our evidence-based course draws on the Faculty of Education’s leadership and research in teacher education that is responsive to local and global contexts. The first year of the course provides a distinctive foundation with excellent grounding in literacy, numeracy, and subject content, as well as issues in contemporary education. Within the four-year full-time equivalent degree, you also undertake core learning in Indigenous education, sustainability, inclusive (special) education, along with curriculum and pedagogy learning across disciplines. All primary and secondary Initial Teacher Education students across Australia need to attempt the Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education (LANTITE) in their first year of study.

Applicants to Southern Cross University campuses must meet specific admission requirements based on their location. For the NSW campus, they must satisfy the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) criteria for an initial teacher education course, including passing the UAC or QTAC non-academic entry test. For the Queensland campus, applicants must meet the criteria set by both the Queensland College of Teachers and NESA, ensuring eligibility for teacher registration in Queensland, along with completing the UAC or QTAC non-academic entry requirement test.
