Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU) offers a wide range of programmes for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral studies. This guide details the admission process for each level, along with information for international students.

Undergraduate Programmes

Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET Test) is the gateway for Under Graduate Programmes of SIU. This mandatory computer-based exam is your key to various programmes, including Law, Management, Engineering, Computer Studies, Economics, Mass Communication, and more.

 

Students aspiring to get admission for UG programmes offered by institutes of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) have to appear for the common, mandatory Computer Based Test(s) (CBT). Since 2018, “SET – General” is known as Symbiosis Entrance Test (SET), “SET – Law” test is known as Symbiosis Law Admission Test (SLAT) and “SET – Engineering” as SIT Engineering Entrance Exam (SITEEE). These are conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode across various cities of India.


New and Flexible Programme Structure:

Aligned with India's National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, SIU offers a four-year undergraduate programme with multiple exit options. This allows you to:

  • Pursue single or double majors
  • Explore minors in other disciplines
  • Engage in multidisciplinary studies
  • Take skill enhancement courses

The programme integrates practical learning experiences, research opportunities, and community engagement. You can even participate in semester exchange programmes at foreign universities. Here are the flexible exit options:

  • Certificate (after Year 1 with 44 credits)
  • Diploma (after Year 2 with 84 credits)
  • Undergraduate Degree (after Year 3 with 120 credits)
  • Undergraduate Degree with Honours/Research (after Year 4 with 160 credits)

* Not applicable for programmes under SLAT and SITEEE.

 

Post Graduate Programmes

Symbiosis National Aptitude Test (SNAP Test) is the gateway for Post Graduate Programmes of Symbiosis International (Deemed University).

A candidate aspiring to join an MBA programme offered by any Institute of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) [SIU] has to take the common, mandatory Symbiosis National Aptitude (SNAP) Computer Based Test (CBT).

The candidate needs to:

a) Register for SNAP Test

b) Pay the registration fee for SNAP Test

c) Register for her/his choice of programme(s) offered by any Institute of SIU

d) Pay the registration fee, separately for each programme.

If shortlisted for a programme applied to, the candidate would then need to participate in the further admission process (GE-PI) of that particular programme.

The registration process (including the payment of the registration fee) for SNAP and Institutes is integrated. A candidate can complete the SNAP as well as programme registration (as well as pay the registration fee) on the same portal (snaptest.org)

Doctoral Programmes

 

Symbiosis International (Deemed University) offers a Ph.D. programme under the guidelines prescribed by the University Grants Commission. The programme is offered under the faculties of Law, Management, Computer Studies, Medical and Health Sciences, Media & Communication, Humanities & Social Sciences, and Engineering.

 

The University predetermines the number of doctoral students that can be admitted to the programme based on the number of available research guides. The University aims to maintain a high standard in its research, and with this goal in mind, and as per the directives of the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor on recommendation of the Academic Council, the University has followed a specific criterion of selection.

International Student Admissions

 

Admissions of international students are centralized for all the constituent institutes of Symbiosis International (Deemed University) (SIU) and are routed through the Symbiosis Centre for International Education (SCIE). The admission procedure for foreign students is designed taking into consideration the requirements and difficulties faced by every individual. The online admission procedure has made it accessible to each and every student to apply from different parts of the world and in the comfort of their homes. The student is required to come to India only when the applicant is shortlisted for a particular programme chosen by the student. Through the system of online admissions, students are not only able to check their admission status but also make all their payments online.

SCIE earmarks 15% of the total intake of the respective programme for international students which include, Foreign Nationals (FN), Person of Indian Origin (PIO) Card Holders, Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) Card Holders, and Non-Resident Indians (NRI).

Admission Criteria for NRI Students:


Graduation Transcripts - 80% weightage

Entrance Test (SET/SAT) - 10% weightage

Statement of Purpose - 5% weightage

Two Letters of Recommendation - 5% weightage

 

Students applying under the NRI category are NOT required to appear for the English Proficiency Test (IELA/IELTS Examination).

 

Admission Criteria for FN/PIO/OCI Students:


Graduation Transcripts - 90% weightage

Statement of Purpose - 5% weightage

Two Letters of Recommendation - 5% weightage

Students applying as FN/PIO/OCI are required to appear for the English Proficiency Test (IELTS/IELA examination)

 

In case of Postgraduate programmes:


A student is eligible to apply as a Non-Resident Indian (NRI) if he/she is an Indian National and has appeared for the 12th examination (equivalent to the Indian 12th) or graduation outside India. It is mandatory for one of the two qualifying examinations to be given outside India.

 

Admission Criteria for NRI Students:

Located among lush hills, the main campus of the University offers a chance to coexist with nature as it stands over a valley surrounded by clouds and painted green in its best season. Powered by solar sources, its eco-friendly functioning makes for a perfect setting for contemplative and incisive study far from the worries and hustle of the city. Designed to conserve natural resources, the Lavale campus incorporates a rain water harvesting project to conserve water and re-use it effectively for various purposes. Envisioned as a green zone, students are encouraged to walk, and bicycles have been provided for transport.

One Network One Campus: The University has One Network One Campus One Firewall Policy providing centralised monitoring with seamless Wi-Fi connectivity. The campuses are Wi-Fi enabled with adequate number of well-furnished ICT enabled classrooms with desktops / laptops, LCD projectors, audio systems, and 24 X 7 internet connectivity.

Library: Libraries are fully computerized, stacked with 3,87,380 print copies of textbooks and reference books, and interconnected using OPAC with ‘KOHA’. The library portal facilitates access to 2,21,573 e-books, 98,050 e-journals, and 117 databases with around 62541 individual logins on the library portal.

Sports facilities: Sports & Games are essential components of human resource development, helping to promote good health, comradeship & spirit of healthy competition which in turn has positive impact on holistic development of personality of the Youth who is potential source of energy, enthusiasm and inspiration for development, progress and prosperity of a Nation. On campus sports and recreation facilities are some of the best and offer many outdoor recreation options for all. We boast of 13 indoor and outdoor fitness centres ,Tennis Courts, Basketball courts, Volleyball Courts, Futsal Courts, Football Field, Cricket Field, Indoor Badminton Hall, Squash Courts, Gymnasiums, Swimming Pools, Yoga and Aerobic studios and offer many group classes, Coaching facilities, Yoga for rejuvenation and stress management and options to participate in outbound programs and competitions at all levels. The state of the art campus recreation and wellness facility is one of the finest facilities of its kind, which provides a wonderful avenue for recreation, fitness, wellbeing, de-stress and fun!

Emotional Wellbeing: Mental health encompasses our emotional, social and psychological wellbeing and is an essential part of ensuring overall health and wellness. It has a widespread impact on the different facets of one’s life. Recognizing the importance of good mental health, the Symbiosis Centre for Emotional Well-being (SCEW) is established by the University. SCEW is providing promotive, preventive, and curative mental health care services within the Symbiosis community.

Health Care facilities: The University also has a well-equipped state-of-the-art hospital the Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre at the main campus in Pune. The university offers medical facilities for all its students and teaching and non-teaching staff through Symbiosis Centre of Health Care (SCHC) at every campus. It is the “In-house Health Care Unit” of Symbiosis which provides preventive, promotive and curative health care services. All students and staff are covered under Health Insurance.

Hostels: The University provides hostel facilities at all its campuses. Canteen and mess is available at the campuses which provide healthy and delicious food for the students at reduced rates.

Dining hall & Canteen: A well-designed dining hall helps students connect with their university and develop bonds with other students. At the University, students can avail hygienic, nutritious food in our in house dining halls and canteens. The dining hall menus change on a daily basis and offer a wide variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.

Banking Facilities: The University has ATMs at most of its campuses to facilitate for anytime banking.

Studios: The Symbiosis Studios, located at the main campus is a state-of the-art facility catering to all requirements of a film/television production. Equipped with a multi-camera studio, a chroma studio, two high end editing suites, a PCR recording studio and 2 photo studios, this high-end facility is a one stop shop for all filming requirements.

Students avail a fully equipped non-linear edit suite comprising of Final Cut Pro, Avid and Adobe Premiere systems. The Visual Studio comprises of a Chroma Studio and a massive shooting floor with a PCR room, Teleprompter Pro System, 2 studio camera and audio equipment. Audio-Visual equipment includes 4 Panasonic P2 HVX202AEN, 4 DVX-102 and 5 Panasonic Handicams. Audio equipment includes professional use microphones like Azden SGM 2X and Sony ECM 77B. Audio production and post-production facilities allow the students the use of Pro Tools along with a full-fledged recording studio to record their creativity at their best. Through these facilities, the students not only develop their technical skills as budding journalists and audio visual experts but also learn how to keep an open mindset and mould this technicality along with their creativity and style before entering their desired fields of agency businesses.

Studio Kitchen: A state of the art and one of its kind in the country, the Studio Kitchen is a platform for specialised culinary demonstrations and workshops by culinary experts from across the world. This 130-seater fully air conditioned culinary studio.
