Healthcare Scientists and Biomedical Scientists play an essential role in the National Health Service. The Healthcare Science workforce is central to high quality care for all and provides expert diagnostic advice and laboratory investigation for the treatment of patients and prevention of disease. The Department of Health, under the auspices of ‘Modernising Scientific Careers (MSC)’, has developed a new flexible career structure for all Healthcare Scientists underpinned by new education and training programmes. Recognising that need, the BSc in Healthcare Science involves a multidisciplinary approach to the study of human disease. It encompasses studies of the causes of disease and the effects of disease on the normal structure and functions of the human body and it provides an understanding of the scientific basis for the laboratory investigation, diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of disease. It also develops and applies new technologies that help improve the care of patients.
