Become an expert in modern control and systems engineering, ready to take your place in the next generation of leaders in either industry or research. You'll learn how to use signal processing to interpret, control and optimise system behaviour across a broad range of domains.

The modern engineering industry increasingly needs employees with the skills to design and maintain large and complex systems, and who are able to work across multiple disciplines. This MSc course is designed to equip you for these roles whether you have never studied control systems before, or you are an experienced engineering professional looking to add advanced and topical expertise.

You will learn how to model, optimise and control systems, how to process and use signals for classification and control and how automation is carried out in industry. You will also develop practical skills using industry standard software and hardware, including MATLAB and programme logic controllers (PLCs). Optional modules to further develop your skills in areas that interest you include cybersecurity and an opportunity to work with companies on real problems experienced by industry.

In addition to taught modules, you will undertake an individual research project, working alongside world-class academics and using state-of-the-art facilities. The project provides an opportunity to apply your knowledge to a real engineering problem, often in collaboration with industry or research centres.

Graduates from this programme are well-equipped for technical and leadership roles in control systems, automation, industrial engineering and systems engineering, across disciplines from automotive and aerospace to green energy and biotechnology.

Accreditation

Accredited by the Engineering Council UK, Institution of Engineering and Technology and the Institute of Measurement and Control.
