Which areas of the law come into play when combatting terrorism, holding companies accountable for environmental damage, or protecting employees of online platforms? What should you do if a migrant has the right to asylum but has committed a crime? And what social and moral aspects play a role here?

During the interdisciplinary Law in Society Bachelor’s programme at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, you’ll tackle global societal challenges. In addition to a broad legal perspective, you’ll also approach these issues from a social sciences viewpoint, incorporating insights gained from both quantitative and qualitative research.

In a mixed classroom setting, you’ll work alongside international classmates with diverse backgrounds and opinions. Afterwards, you’ll be ready to work in an international environment – addressing the societal challenges of today and tomorrow.

Why Law in Society?
  • The programme is structured around four compelling themes: migration, sustainability, security and the globalisation of markets.
  • In the law courses, you’ll learn which areas of law are relevant to societal issues, how they interact and how to apply them.
  • You’ll carry out your own research, incorporating insights from social sciences, enabling you to develop well-informed policies.
  • You’ll gain a broad perspective on international law. On completing this programme, you’ll have lots of career paths available.
