The four-year Bachelor of Science in Facilities Management degree prepares students for a career in the profession of Facility Management. It is a profession that encompasses multiple disciplines to ensure functionality of the built environment by integrating people, place, process and technology. Students who choose this degree program can pursue facility management certification after entering into the profession. The program’s junior and senior years comprise 60 credits hours, made up of 26 required architecture credits, 25 required credits in business, statistics, and law, 6 General Education credits and 3 elective credits. The program is a guaranteed degree path for undergraduate students in the Architecture Department in good standing in the University at the end of their second year. The Facilities Management Program's curricular offerings are based on real-world experience and engagement through visits to the classroom by professional faciilty managers, site visits, and application of current facility management best practices in students' coursework and planning proposals. The Architecture Department offers 16 credits of required courses specifically for facilities management students, which may be taken as electives by other architecture majors. Another 10 required architecture credits are common to BS Arch and BS Architecture Preservation students. 18 credits of required courses are offered in the Fox School of Business and Management in accounting, micro economics, real estate, human resource management and operations management and one required course is offered in the School of Law. A statistics course is required as a prerequisite for the real estate courses. Students may attend TU Rome or TU Japan, where offerings may fulfill free elective requirements. Two of the architecture courses are writing intensive. The program concludes with a capstone research seminar, in which students demonstrate competency in facilities management through applied research presented in report and public presentation format.
