The background of this Master's program goes back to the first teaching center specialized in urban and regional planning in Latin America, the Lima Planning Institute (IPL), which, with the support of the OAS and in accordance with an Agreement with the Organization of American States (OAS) and the advice of Yale University, trained professionals from all over Latin America starting in 1961. In 1984, the Master's program in Urban and Regional Planning was taken over by the then Graduate Section of the Faculty of Architecture, Urbanism and Arts.
Cities and regions are complex systems and therefore necessarily involve the interdisciplinary effort of professionals from different specialties.
