The QST track focuses on the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics, quantum computing, quantum materials, and quantum information, as well as the mathematical structures underlying these phenomena. Students explore core concepts such as superposition and entanglement, learning how they enable capabilities beyond classical systems in areas like quantum computation, communication, and sensing.

The program bridges theory and application, training students to model, analyze, and innovate within quantum systems, and to connect quantum theory to real-world platforms including quantum processors, sensors, and communication devices. Graduates acquire the skills to push the boundaries of quantum science and contribute to the quantum technology industry, with the opportunity to specialize in theory, experiment, or both.

Topics include optical and quantum-secure communication, post-quantum cryptography, integrated photonics, neutral atom computing and sensing devices, quantum information theory and algorithms, design and characterization of quantum hardware, and the foundations of quantum physics and quantum materials.
