Students will also gain the critical and conceptual tools to think in new and creative ways about the contemporary movement of people, things, and ideas around the globe. The department’s innovative work on the topic of migration includes the use of film to intervene in the current “migrant crises” in Europe, ethnographic studies of lifestyle migration among the middle classes, and the use of smartphones to enable migrants to document the forms of surveillance that they encounter.
