The Master of Counselling is a practical program focuses on the counselling relationship as the key feature of effective counselling practice. This course incorporates critical appraisal of selected counselling literature and research which is combined with extensive practical training, building each candidate’s personal and professional capacity for a counselling career. In the second year, candidates will complete a substantial research project addressing counselling theory or practice or choose to complete the award through coursework and case study. This course involves two supervised placements which allows candidates to develop skills in assessment, individual and group treatment, working with children and adult clients, working with other professionals and within the supervisory relationship. This course is accredited by Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and Australian Counselling Association (ACA). Graduates are eligible to apply for intern registration with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) and to then work towards clinical registration with PACFA. Graduates are eligible to apply for Level 2 membership with the Australian Counselling Association and then work towards Level 3 / 4 Clinical membership.

  • Hold a three-year degree (AQF Level 7) from a recognised university in an area related to counselling such as psychology, social work, occupational therapy, nursing, education or human services;
  • preferably with paid or volunteer experience in counselling role.
