This programme trains you to be a professional chemist capable of developing original ideas, designing new processes in research and applied/ industrial contexts and applying the tools and ideas of modern chemistry to the solution of biological problems at the molecular level. It employs a unique approach to the study of sustainable and green chemistry by providing you with an in-depth knowledge of the interaction between chemical production and the environment. It also tackles the emerging discipline of Chemical Biology that sits at the crossroad of traditional chemistry and biology, equipping you with the ability to bridge disparate fields and the confidence to tackle research in sustainable and green chemistry and technology, biomolecular studies and biotechnologies in a multidisciplinary environment.
The programme offers three distinct curricula from which to choose:
  • Biomolecular Chemistry (taught in English)
  • Chemistry (taught in Italian)
  • Industrial Chemistry (taught in Italian)
The course of study is markedly interdisciplinary and offers many hands-on formative and international internship opportunities, thereby providing you with the skills you need to assume both highly qualified technical and academic positions in research and development, quality assurance and production control.
Upon graduation, you will have the skill set required to become a highly qualified specialist or consultant in different industries or to work in international biological/environmental protection.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates are prepared to work as employees or freelance professionals in any of the departments of a modern company or at a research institute, as well as perform managerial tasks in the chemical industry (both basic and “fine”) and manufacturing. Possible career opportunities include:
  • Biotechnologist
  • Chemist
  • Chemical information management specialist
  • Chemical manufacturing consultant
  • Process developer
  • Product designer
  • Specialist consultant for companies and governmental agencies
  • Researcher

Frequently Asked Questions

There are so many, including top-notch teaching and research, eminently affordable tuition fees (see the relevant FAQ below for details), a markedly global and globally-minded attitude and being located in the incomparable city of Venice. Read all about them here: www.unive.it/10goodreasons. Being based in the historic centre of Venice, Ca’ Foscari offers the opportunity to study and carry out research in one of the world’s most beautiful cities. As you surely know, Venice is a very unique place. While it allows you to do the typical things you might expect – like wandering for hours and enjoying getting lost in its beauty – but it is also what you may not imagine: a place where student life spills into every public space and cultural engagement is around every corner. Venice also positions you at the heart of Europe, making it an easy and affordable jumping-off point for exploring the rest of Italy and beyond.
Ca’ Foscari is a public, federally subsidized institution that prioritizes internationalisation and assuring affordable access to university education for everyone, even students coming from abroad. Students from Italy or European Union/Schengen Area countries pay maximum tuition fees of around 2,400 euro per year for most bachelor’s degrees and around 2,600 euro per year for master’s degrees. Students from other parts of the world, depending on their nationality, pay less than this, sometimes as little as 700 euros per year. To learn about how much your tuition fees will be, explore Ca’ Foscari’s online application platform apply.unive.it. To make choosing Ca’ Foscari even more manageable for high-achieving international students, the university offers renewable merit-based scholarships dedicated to international bachelor’s and master’s students. There are also additional national scholarship programmes for master’s students. Read all about these opportunities here: https://www.unive.it/scholarships.
Ca’ Foscari’s science and technology teaching and research take place on its Scientific Campus, which was inaugurated in 2017 and continues to grow and expand. This focused campus fosters a close-knit, collaborative academic community and ensures you have access to state-of-the-art labs and equipment. You also get the chance to work with a large number of international visiting professors and cutting-edge Marie Curie researchers who expose you to new knowledge and fresh perspectives. You should also be pleased to hear that Ca’ Foscari is especially dedicated to the pursuit of sustainability in all its forms, including the safeguarding the future of our planet through the leveraging of scientific and technological research.
At Ca’ Foscari we believe that a university education needs to be international. This is why we offer a wide range of bachelor’s, master’s and PhD programmes completely taught in English, which are popular with both international students and Italian students interested in a markedly international classroom experience. At the same time, to make sure you take full advantage of everything Italy has to offer, English-taught programmes include an Italian course to get you started on learning the local language.
European and non-European students with an international qualification who wish to enrol in a bachelor's or master's degree programme at Ca' Foscari apply for admission via the online platform apply.unive.it. After uploading the required documentation and completing the procedure, additional information and the outcome of the application will be communicated via email.
