The Mathematics and Economics (MAEC) program is jointly offered by the School of Science and School of Business and Management of HKUST. The program provides students with solid training in the fundamental theories of both mathematics and economics. The curriculum equips students with quantitative reasoning skills, conceptual understanding, and the ability to communicate effectively in mathematics and the language of economics and social sciences. The complexity and technical aspects of contemporary economic problems exhibit a strong synergy between mathematics and economics. The program offers an advantage to students who would otherwise major in mathematics or economics alone. This interdisciplinary degree is suited for students who seek the option of taking a quantitatively oriented job in the finance industry or intend to pursue postgraduate study in applied mathematics, economics, business or related areas such as operations research or management science.

Post-Secondary Qualifications: Completion of at least one year full-time study in an Associate Degree, Higher Diploma or undergraduate studies in a post-secondary institution; High School Qualifications: Completion of high school graduation requirements; and Completion of any school-leaving public examinations. Normally, a GPA above B+/80% is expected in your post-secondary studies. In addition, attainments in high school exams taken in the past will be useful information for preliminary assessments. Subject requirements include: One senior level subject from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics. Interview is not compulsory.
