The Healthcare Entry Medicine (HEM) Programme is new for 2026 entry.

The programme has been designed to enable qualified healthcare professionals with a minimum of two years (full time equivalent) patient-facing clinical experience to study for a fast-track degree in medicine.

The programme enables you to establish the foundation in bioscience and population science required for a career in medicine, while adapting some of the early clinical elements of a conventional medical degree to achieve qualification in four rather than five or six years.

Key benefits
  • The first accelerated medicine programme in the UK designed specifically for the needs of qualified healthcare professionals.
  • Accredited by the General Medical Council (GMC), this Primary Medical Qualification entitles the holder to apply to the GMC for registration to practise medicine in the UK.
  • Integrated medical science with clinical teaching; and focus on learning in close contact with patients.
  • Learn from some of the world’s most influential clinicians and scientists, who are global leaders in life sciences and medical research.
  • Partner hospitals include Guy’s, King’s College and St Thomas’ Hospitals – three of the most renowned and busy teaching hospitals in London.
  • Students benefit from clinical placements at district general hospitals located across the South of England and at over 350 general practices.
