The Poitiers Campus of the Undergraduate College is a gateway to Latin America, the Iberian Peninsula and the Caribbean. It welcomes around 260 students each year, of whom 30% are international students from almost 40 different countries. Surrounded by the cobbled streets and Romanesque architecture for which Poitiers is known, the campus is located in the city centre, just a short walk from the train station. It is housed in an eighteenth-century listed building equipped with state-of-the-art study spaces: a cafeteria, video studio, music room, group work spaces and several lecture halls. The campus is also near several student residences and municipal sports and cultural centres. The Poitiers Campus follows the core curriculum of the Undergraduate College Bachelor’s degree. Like all six other campuses, Poitiers is highly international, both in its curriculum and its student and faculty community. Students taking the Latin America-Caribbean Minor study the geopolitical, economic and social issues of Latin America, from a comparative perspective in relation to the European Union and the Iberian Peninsular. The Poitiers Campus curriculum is constantly being developed to cohere as closely as possible with contemporary problems and transnational issues. Pedagogic innovation is a priority for the campus, which has designed several new course formats (e.g. the Globe Courses series taught in conjunction with lecturers at universities abroad) and regularly introduces new programmes (including the Seas and Ocean Certificate). Students taking this French-language programme, which includes numerous courses in English and Spanish, explore the history of Latin America and the Caribbean, and contemporary issues within the region.
