DTU offers an interdisciplinary study programme that focuses on the broad and general engineering competences. The programme provides you with a solid grounding in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, and simultaneously teaches you to work across disciplines and apply them to solve actual problems.

Engineers find answers to some of the questions surrounding us daily – from the big challenges to the small but significant details. They learn to break down issues and find specific and practical solutions. They work with wind power, AI, medicine, infrastructure, and many other areas influencing our daily lives.

As a student in the bachelor programme in General Engineering at DTU, you learn the skills it takes to help shape the future.

Studying General Engineering, you gain a list of general competences across the engineering field and can specialise within your chosen topics. This combination allows you to gain a thorough understanding of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biotechnology while diving into your favourite subject. That way, you get the best starting point for a career as an engineer.

Through the programme, you will collaborate with your fellow students as you work on several design-build projects, which are projects focused on finding diverse solutions to real-life challenges. Here, you learn to collaborate, communicate, and apply the learned technical skills.

The General Engineering programme is international, with all courses taught in English, and approximately 40 percent of the students are Danish, while 60 percent are international.

If you love collaborating, want to gain a global perspective, and find solutions that make a difference, this could be your programme.

General admission requirements
When you apply to DTU you have to fulfil two sets of admission requirements:
  1. The general admission requirement: You must have an upper secondary exam that equates a Danish upper secondary exam
  2. The specific admission requirements: You must have certain subjects at certain levels
You can visit the Exam book to find out if your secondary exam gives access to higher education in Denmark.

Specific admission requirement
In addition to the general admission requirement, you also have to fulfil the specific admission requirements. The specific admission requirement means that you have to have certain subjects at a specific level. The A and B-levels refer to how advanced the subject is and does not refer to grades. A-level means the highest level in a Danish upper secondary exam and B-level the second highest level.
The four specific admission requirements for the BSc in General Engineering are (Danish levels):
  • Mathematics A-level
  • English B-level
  • Physics B-level and Chemistry B-level or
  • Physics B-level and Biotechnology A-level or
  • Geoscience A-level and Chemistry B-level
If you have a Danish upper secondary exam Biotechnology A-level can substitute Chemistry B-level and Geoscience A-level can substitute Physics B-level.

The grade requirement is that you have passed the course. DTU will convert your levels and grades, if you have a non-Danish upper secondary exam. However, if you have an IB or an exam from the Nordic countries, you can use the conversion tables below or visit the Exam book.

If you do not fulfill the specific level requirement you must pass supplement courses. You can use our Supplementary courses guide to help find online supplementary courses or you can find something on your own. If you do find courses on your own, make sure that DTU approves that the syllabus meets the required level in Denmark.

Language requirements
For admission to the English-taught General Engineering bachelor’s programme, all applicants with an international upper secondary exam/high school exam, must fulfill the English language requirement. Meeting the requirement of English at B-level from your upper secondary education does not exempt you from also taking an English test.

The English language requirement can be fulfilled by documenting the completion of one of the below accepted tests with a final test result over the minimum score.

We only accept certificates that can be verified online. The verification of TOEFL and IELTS tests expires after 2 years and will not be accepted if they are non-verifiable on July 5th.

Please note that when taking a TOEFL test you must register both DTU’s TOEFL code (1684) prior to the test and subsequently receive a physical certificate (score report), which must be scanned and saved in pdf format and uploaded with your application for admission.
