The Master of Arts in Translation Studies programme aims to foster a new generation of translators and interpreters with a professional outlook, linguistic and cultural competence, as well as the skills necessary to meet the challenges of both the local and international markets in the years to come. It also aims to provide a comprehensive and in-depth study of the multifaceted issues in translation and interpreting. Upon completion of this programme, students should be able to: Display a sound understanding of differences between English and Chinese/ Portuguese and Chinese/ Portuguese and English expression; Produce translations that are adapted to genre characteristics and the purpose in question; Serve as professional translators/interpreters with full awareness of code of conduct and professional ethics; Demonstrate sensitivity towards linguistic nuances and cultural differences in cross-cultural communication; Carry out independent academic inquiry (research) into the theory, practice and various phenomena in translation and interpreting; and Integrate existing technology to produce rapid, customized and localized translations.

An applicant of a Master’s degree programme must possess a Bachelor’s degree or academic background recognized as equivalent by the University of Macau. An applicant may also be required to possess other knowledge or professional experience. Applicants should have achieved the equivalent of an overall result of Grade C+ or better in the Bachelor’s degree studies.
