This course has been developed in partnership with the industry-leading Netflix Animation Studios (formerly Animal Logic) and is offered through the UTS Animal Logic Academy. It is designed for aspiring professionals seeking specialised roles in the 3D animation and visual effects industries. It does this through the application of students’ specialist skills to a high-quality, industry style project.


You will develop your creative ability, technical expertise and collaborative practice under industry expert mentorship.


Because the course and the studio are co-designed with Netflix Animation Studios, you will learn industry practices in an authentic studio environment with access to cutting-edge know-how, tools and technologies.


You will develop industry level skills in your chosen area of specialisation, such as: art department, pre-visualisation/layout, modelling, rigging, 3D animation, surfacing, lighting, effects (FX), compositing, technical direction or production coordination.


Through working collaboratively on large scale projects, you will also refine your critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.


Learning occurs in a state-of-the-art digital studio. Production mirrors professional workflows which offers you practical, hands-on experience, supported by industry-standard technology with professional guidance.


Graduates emerge with advanced knowledge and project experience in their chosen area of specialisation, ready to accelerate their entry into 3D animation, visual effects or visualisation studios.


The course provides challenges and opportunities that encourage exploration and skills-building across the spectrum of roles in digital production, 3D animation, digital asset creation, visual effects and emerging visualisation disciplines. Collaborative work practices guide the development of strong competencies in critical thinking, problem solving, teamwork, and effective communication in a production environment. Graduates are able to work productively and effectively in a professional-style workplace.

To be eligible for admission to this course, applicants must meet the following criteria.

Applicants must have the following:

  • Completed Australian bachelor's degree or higher qualification, or overseas equivalent, in any field of study, AND advanced skills and aptitude in the nominated speciation in 3D animation or visual effects production as demonstrated by their portfolio and work experience covered in their Curriculum Vitae (CV).

Applicants who do not meet the criteria above should consider applying for C11326 Graduate Certificate in Animation and Visualisation.

Mandatory Application Documents and Requirements
  • Nominated specialisation

Applicants must nominate one specialisation in 3D animation or visualisation production.

  • The available specialisations are:
    Digital Artist Specialisations:

Art Department, Pre-Visualisation/Layout, Modelling, Surfacing, Rigging, Animation, Effects (FX), Lighting, Compositing

  • Production Management Specialisation:
    Production Management
  • Technical Direction Specialisation:
    Technical Direction

Portfolio: demonstrating skill in the applicant's nominated specialisation:
  • Applicants must include the required works listed under 'What to include in your portfolio' for their nominated specialisation, as outlined in the UTS Animal Logic Academy course guide. Refer to the 'What to include in your portfolio' subheading on the corresponding specialisation page ('Specialisations' section, pages 24-34)
  • Applicants for Digital Artist Specialisations:
    A digital portfolio of work (PDF file, max. 10 pages) AND/OR a showreel link (max. video duration 2mins) on Vimeo, YouTube or a QuickTime file, with clear captions of what the applicant's role was in each sequence presented
  • Applicants for the Technical Direction Specialisation (without a showreel):
    Provide documented experience in coding/programming for digital production or visualisation and include links to coding projects on sites such as GitHub (PDF file, max. 10 pages)
  • Applicants for the Production Management Specialisation (without a showreel):
    Provide documented project coordination and/or event management experience (PDF file, max. 10 pages)


Curriculum Vitae (CV):
Describe education, training and experience relevant to the nominated area of 3D animation and/or visualisation production
Include (where relevant):
  • Previous qualifications attained (e.g. Bachelor Degree, Advanced Diploma, Diploma, evidence of short courses etc.)
  • A list of self-directed learning outcomes completed (e.g. software training, online courses etc.)
  • Relevant industry experience in the animation and visualisation industries (dates employed and names of employers, with reference letters if available)
  • Work and/or project experience (with reference letters if available)
  • A concise account of the individual role played in the creation of any work submitted
  • Contact details for two referees who can validate level of skills (these referees can be previous employers/managers or lecturers/ teachers)


Interview

  • Applicants are initially assessed on the above submission requirements, and those that are shortlisted will be required to attend a panel interview
  • Applicants are assessed in the areas of clarity and commitment to their chosen area of specialisation, experience
  • Progression to interview stage is conditional on first meeting the English Language Requirements
