The Master of Music (M.M.) degree program is the largest at the School of Music, with approximately 70% of students enrolled. M.M. Students take a variety of classes, including music history, hearing, and chamber music. Performance majors play in the Yale Philharmonia and in the New Music New Haven concert series. Composition majors can hear their music performed on the New Music New Haven series. There are many electives to choose from, and all students must complete one nonperformance elective per semester, for a total of four. Students can take classes in Yale College and in other graduate/professional schools at Yale. To earn the M.M. degree, students must pass a minimum of 72 credit hours with a B average. All students must pass the keyboard proficiency test. A reading knowledge of a foreign language such as French, German, Italian, or Spanish is required, and language exams are offered several times throughout the year. A full tuition award and fellowship are made to all students who are admitted to the Yale School of Music, with the exception of those receiving awards from other agencies.

Other English language Requirements: Yale?s most competitive applicants will have TOEFL scores of at least the following, 600 on the paper-based TOEFL, 250 on the computer-based TOEFL.
