Yale Engineering graduates are working at the forefront of technology and science and have made outstanding contributions to society in the form of innovative technologies and significant research discoveries. Our Engineering program builds on a strong and broad foundation of related sciences and has been successfully developing emerging technologies, while also being interdisciplinary and flexible. Graduate students develop their own course of study and research in consultation with faculty. The Mechanical Engineering & Materials Science Department currently has 30 graduate students in residence, with an average of six students entering every year. Most graduate students are enrolled in the doctoral program, which entails a combination of course work and original research. The program mission is to develop students? independence and creativity while strengthening their scientific and technical background. The size of the program relative to that of the faculty ensures close interaction between students and faculty.

Admission to our graduate programs is open to students with a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree or its equivalent in any field of engineering or in related areas (physics, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, and materials science). Other English language Requirements: Yale?s most competitive applicants will have TOEFL scores of at least the following, 600 on the paper-based TOEFL, 250 on the computer-based TOEFL.
