The "Fundamental and Applied Cognitive Psychology" course aims to train high-level specialists in the field of cognitive psychology, working in the fields of higher education, fundamental and applied research, cognitive engineering, counseling and cognitive assessment.


The course allows students to obtain the Title of Psychologist for students holding a license in psychology and a master's degree in psychology. It is characterized by a strong specialization in cognitive psychology and neurosciences and by a professionalization of the students from the first year of the master's degree (professional internship in a field of applied research compulsory in the 1st year of the Master's degree and optional according to the professional project of the student in 2nd year). These links with the socio-economic world allow students to understand the specificities of research professions within the company and promote professional integration at the end of the master's degree. They also facilitate the search for CIFRE funding for further doctoral studies.


At the end of the master's degree, graduates can enter the professions of Applied Research, Engineering, Consulting and Cognitive Evaluation within private research structures (Center for Research and Business Development, start-ups, research or consulting firm, applied research organisations). They can also pursue a doctorate and then work in higher education and research, whether fundamental or applied. Since the creation of the master in 2014, the rate of continuation in funded thesis is on average 48% (of which 50% on the basis of a doctoral contract and 50% on the basis of CIFRE, ANR, DGA funding).


This program is part of the Graduate School Psychological Science of Université Paris Cité, linking master's and doctoral courses with cutting-edge research laboratories. The Graduate School offers an innovative approach to scientific psychology, training experts to shed light on major scientific questions related to the human aspect.

Admission Requirements

  • Demonstrate solid knowledge in psychology or other disciplines directly related to the content of the training
  • Demonstrate academic skills in psychology, statistics, English and scientific methodology
  • Have a professional project that clearly falls within the field of fundamental and applied cognitive psychology
  • Know how to use skills in written and oral expression
  • Have strong English skills in order to be able to attend a seminar in English 
  • Show an interest in behavioral and/or neurophysiological measurement and analysis methods and in the use of new technologies and/or R&D areas                   
  • Provide proof of a level of French greater than or equal to C1
  • Have completed a professional internship in cognitive psychology or demonstrate professional experience in the field
