The Degree Course in Geological Sciences responds to the need to provide graduates with both a substantial basic geological background and the knowledge and operational tools they need to access higher level training courses, as well as a solid general training to work in the professional field. Therefore, the Course, developing mainly training and methodological aspects, is fundamentally articulated on basic and specialized disciplines that distinguish a single training path. The Course provides basic knowledge and understanding of the chemical, physical, mathematical and computer science disciplines and of some sectors of the geological disciplines, in their theoretical, experimental and practical aspects. In order to develop the theoretical knowledge learned, the student will be able to become familiar with the methods of investigation and data processing, both in the laboratory and in the field, also through the use of GIS information technology. Finally, the Course provides the opportunity to effectively use the English language in the scientific-technical field. The training activities in the various disciplinary sectors include, in addition to lectures, laboratory exercises and field activities dedicated to learning the use of specific instrumentation and experimental geological survey methods. In relation to the acquisition of experience from the world of work, there is an obligation to carry out internship training activities at university facilities or at qualified public and private bodies. Finally, study stays at other European and non-European universities, also within the framework of international agreements. The skills acquired allow the graduate to adapt to the evolution of the discipline, to interact with culturally contiguous professionals. In addition, the Degree in Geological Sciences allows students to continue their studies in Master's degree courses, subject to verification of the requirements by the relevant bodies. From a professional point of view, the preparation provided by the Study Course allows the graduate, after passing the State Examination - section B, to be enrolled in a special professional register with the qualification of "Junior Geologist".
