The Master of Arts in Exceptional Student Education K-12 program is for non-education majors or previously certified teachers in another content area. The mission of the Exceptional Student Education Program is to become a premier undergraduate and graduate program that prepares educators, researchers and scholars as leaders and advocates for persons with disabilities and their families. In the quest for social justice and educational excellence, we will provide opportunities to engage in learning experiences which focus on research, technology, leadership, pedagogical content knowledge, differentiated instruction, evidence-based practices, equity and access through collaboration with local, state, national and international partners to meet the needs of all individuals and their families. Special Education is instruction individually designed to meet the needs of children with disabilities and children who are gifted. The Master of Arts in Exceptional Student Education K-12 program is for non-education majors or previously certified teachers in another content area. Graduates must be eligible for certification by the successful completion of the degree program in the area of exceptional student education (ESE) and must pass the Florida certification exams. Graduates will also receive Reading and ESOL endorsements upon successful completion of the program, if not currently endorsed

Admission Requirements

Students must have a Bachelor (Honours) consisting of four or more years of full-time study, or a Bachelor degree following a National Certificate or National Diploma. International students also have the following other English language requirements: a minimum 220 on TOEFL (computer-based).
