The mission of the Medical Laboratory Sciences Program is to prepare students as competent and professional medical laboratory science practitioners. The graduates will have the mastery of all entry level competencies upon graduation that will ensure successful passing scores on national certification exams. The medical laboratory sciences program is nationally accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS). Administered by the Department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology, the program has limited access due to low student-clinical instructor ratio limits required for accreditation. This program offers hands on training in each of the five diagnostic areas: clinical chemistry, hematology, immunohematology, clinical microbiology and immunology. Upon graduation, students qualify for state licensure and national certification and have opportunities to work in some of the highest caliber hospitals, research facilities and diagnostic centers in the country. Program curriculum gives students a thorough background in the physical and biological sciences; develops their understanding, skills and abilities essential to assume leadership roles in management and education; develops a high level of proficiency in the clinical laboratory, and allows recognition of the importance of continuing education needed for professional growth.
