The Code of Canon Law requires, in order to act as an advocate in matrimonial causes, the requirement to be a true expert in canon law (can. 1483), and it is up to the judicial vicar to verify this requirement before admitting a lawyer to the list of advocates of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal.
