Development of New Digital Technologies and Generative Artificial Intelligence Tools For The Next Generation Green-By-Design and Sustainable Pharmaceuticals PhD

This PhD project will be part of the prestigious £40m European Consortium “PharmEco”, which involves over 30 research partners across Europe, and a vibrant community of postdoctoral researchers and PhD students. The consortium’s overarching goal is to drive innovation in sustainable pharmaceutical development by focusing on the following objectives:

  1. Next-Generation Retrosynthesis: Develop advanced computer-aided retrosynthesis technologies to prioritise renewable feedstocks for synthesising essential pharmaceuticals and biopharmaceuticals;
  2. Green Chemistry and AI Integration: Leverage digitisation methods and artificial intelligence to design green-by-design, sustainable synthetic, and purification pathways;
  3. Model-Based Approaches: Create digital twins and implement model-based strategies to support early-stage decision-making
  4. Autonomous Experimentation: Develop autonomous platforms for systematic, optimized experimental design and process optimization;
  5. Building Digital Expertise: Address the digital skills gap by equipping the pharmaceutical industry with the next generation of digital leaders.
