Women and Gender Studies provides courses that allow students to explore women’s and gender issues within multiple contexts such as anthropology, cultural studies, economics, history, literature, philosophy, political science, sociology, and the arts. This interdisciplinary curriculum helps to prepare students for careers in a variety of fields including social work, public policy, health and business, and it provides a solid foundation for graduate work in such fields as law, education, and social policy. Courses interrogate gender and its relationship to the categories of sexuality, race, class, nationality, religion, and age. Career Paths: Women and Gender Studies students who have an interest in the role of gender in business and industry may choose careers in advertising, marketing research, human resources, or personnel management. Graduates also enter fields such as government and public policy, career counseling, social service, women’s health, and family planning organizations. The Women and Gender Studies major also provide excellent preparation for students planning to enter graduate and law schools. Finally, there are a growing number of academic placements available in secondary education and college settings.
