In this program students must maintain a GPA of 3.00 to take Honors courses and remain in the Honors Program. All Honors Program students will be reviewed yearly. Any Honors students falling below a 3.00 GPA at the end of any year of study will be contacted and removed from the Honors Program. They are also required to complete the requirements for the Bachelor of Science in nursing. This program is designed to develop the knowledge, understanding, and skills essential for the practice of professional nursing and to provide the basis for graduate education. The program is designed to enhance students’ critical thinking, leadership skills and the ability to work as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team. Nursing majors have access to the latest health care technologies in both clinical and laboratory environments. Prior to actual clinical experiences, students engage in intra- and inter-disciplinary laboratory simulations that include both high fidelity mannequins and standardized patients. Field experiences support junior year classroom content. Career paths: Graduates receive a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and take the national examination for licensure which qualifies them to work as Registered Nurses. The exam may be taken in any state in the United States. Hospitals, industry, outpatient clinics, private practice settings, long-term care facilities and home nursing agencies are some of the prime sites for employment. Many graduates pursue an advanced degree in nursing or a related field.
