Germany has always been at the centre of the European intellectual tradition and is now the driving force of its economy and the EU. Combining German and English allows students to explore connections and interactions between literatures and cultures. The modules reflect the range and diversity of Germany’s culture, history and society. Intensive language work from advanced or beginner level unravelled the richness of German language and cultural life. Students are expected to graduate as highly qualified linguists with advanced intercultural skills, a deep understanding of key issues and developments in Germany’s past and present, and an advanced knowledge of English and comparative literature. Students will spend the second or third year abroad, consolidating and enhancing their learning.
