Theatre has the power to question and to challenge ideas and beliefs. It forces people to consider the way that they live their lives and how their actions affect others. It brings into sharp focus our impact upon the world, posing challenging questions. Storytelling is an immensely powerful art form that has the potential to influence human behaviour and transform the world. By studying a BASc in Theatre and Performance Studies and Global Sustainable Development, students will be exploring the radical and revolutionary artistic power of theatre and entertainment and linking this to the global challenges that face our world today. In Global Sustainable Development component, students will be undertaking a diverse array of courses, developing research knowledge and investigating practical solutions to the Big Questions of our time. Current challenges of sustainability will be explored from many different perspectives, understand their complexity and learn to use a variety of approaches to think creatively about how these problems might be overcome. Alongside this, in the Theatre study students will explore the history and present day trends of theatre and examine how burning questions of diasporas, sexuality, the body, the environment, and violence are expressed in creative artistic form.
