Spanish is a world language with around 400 million speakers and is today one of the most important languages for commerce and cultural exchange. This course offers an innovative approach, combining the study of the Spanish language with the study of the diverse range of Hispanic cultures across Europe, the Caribbean, the Americas, and even aspects of Hispanic history in Africa and the Pacific. Students will work alongside leading researchers whose specialisms range from contemporary Spain to Latin America, via Galicia, the Caribbean, the Atlantic and even the UK. Students will spend a 75% of the time on Hispanic Studies and 25% focusing on Russian language. Russian can usually only be taken at beginner's or post-GCSE (or equivalent) level maximum. The course aims to bring students to B2 standard (CEFR) in this language (this approximates to A Level) by the end of the degree. For those with any prior learning of the language please contact [email protected] before applying. The second or third year will be spent abroad.
