The Master of Advanced Studies in Economics programme offers a deeper knowledge in economic theory, provides you with advanced theoretical and empirical tools to analyse actual economic problems and familiarises you with current research practices in economics. These research practices make use of formal and quantitative techniques. This is reflected in a mix of economic and quantitative, research oriented, courses.

Students with a degree obtained at an institution outside the Flemish Community:
Diploma requirements
Applicants should hold a diploma, with exceptional academic performance (grade ‘cum laude’), from either of the following programmes:
- a university Master's degree ‘Master of Economics’ comparable to the Master's equivalent degree in Economics of KU Leuven
- a university degree ‘Master of Business Economics’, ‘Master of Business Administration’,‘Master of Business Engineering’ or ‘Master of Business Information Systems Engineering’ comparable to the equivalent degree of KU Leuven
- a university Master's degree with a solid background in mathematics and statistics (for example, a university Master's degree obtained at the Faculty of Engineering or at the Faculty of Bioscience engineering) comparable to the equivalent degree of KU Leuven and with a strong interest in economics.
Admissibility is evaluated by the faculty on the basis of the required documents provided by the applicant (see here for the application procedure). Academic performance should be exceptional.
As this is an advanced programme, students who did not obtain a Master's degree of Economics at KU Leuven are expected to have acquired the necessary background in economics at the equivalent level, or to be willing to undertake self-study to bring their knowledge up to this level. In particular, students are expected to have a knowledge of microeconomics
Language requirements
An exemption from TOEFL or IETLS is possible for applicants with a university degree or high school degree earned in Australia, English speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom or the USA: the degree and transcripts suffice, provided they confirm that the entire study was completed in English.
Additional requirements
A GRE /GMAT test result is to be included in the application. For the GRE a minimum score of 164 on quantitative reasoning is required. Alternatively, a GMAT can be submitted. For the GMAT 10th Edition a minimum score of 49 on the quantitative part is required. For the GMAT Focus Edition a minimum score of 81 on the quantitative part is required.
