Which specialisations are available?


The Master of Business Engineering (120 ECTS) is a master’s programme in which you can specialise in the following fields:


  • One major (24 ECTS): Accounting and Financial Management, Risk and Finance, Quantitative Marketing, Production and Logistics, Quantitative Methods for Decision Making, Industry, Technology and Globalization, Technology and Entrepreneurship.

The Business Engineering programme offers an advanced quantitative and science-based training in business economics and its various business disciplines. The managerial focus is combined with developing strong analytical skills and a profound understanding of how business and (technological) innovation processes work. The programme has strong foundations in engineering sciences, but also has tight connections to humanities. This integration of disciplines is highly relevant to production environments as well as to service companies (e.g. consultancy or ICT). Furthermore, an exchange during the second master year is possible.

Students with a degree obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community:

Direct admission

On the basis of the following degrees, or similar degrees, obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community:

  • Bachelor handelsingenieur (Brussel,  Leuven)
  • Bachelor in de toegepaste economische wetenschappen (Kortrijk) (Optie HIR)
  • Bachelor of Business Engineering (Brussel)

After preparatory programme

Students who have obtained an academic Bachelor’s/Master's degree that does not grant direct access can gain access through the Voorbereidingsprogramma: Master handelsingenieur / Master of Business Engineering (Dutch programme ).

Students with a degree obtained at an institution outside the Flemish Community:

Diploma requirements

The Master of Business Engineering programme is intended for holders of: - an academic Bachelor's degree with a strong quantitative (and technological) focus and with sufficient knowledge of economics and management science; or - an academic Bachelor's degree in (business) economics with a substantial quantitative (and technological) component.

The decision about the admission will be based on evidence of the applicant's acquired competences in primarily the following domains: economics and business (min. 36 ECTS); quantitative methods, technology and sciences (min. 45 ECTS credits) and ICT (including programming) (min. 6 ECTS credits). Quantitative methods are required while the domains technology and sciences are optional.

Language requirements

An exemption from the proof of English proficiency by means of the above-mentioned tests is possible for applicants with a secondary education degree or a higher education degree earned in Australia, English speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom or the USA: the degree and transcripts suffice, provided they confirm that the entire study was completed in English.

Students who completed their studies in a satellite campus which is located in another country than the main campus of the university are not eligible for an exemption from the English language proficiency certificate.
