Why study Business and Information Systems Engineering at KU Leuven?

The Business and Information Systems Engineering programme offers an advanced quantitative and science-based training in business economics and its various business disciplines. It is analytically underpinned by insights from engineering science and computer science, but also inspired by insights from the humanities as the basis for a unique interdisciplinary approach to business management. A thorough study of business economics is combined with a training in information and communication technology. The programme focuses on the creation, integration, management and use of information in a business context to support business management in a digital world. Furthermore, an exchange during the second master's year is possible.

Direct admission

On the basis of the following degrees, or similar degrees, obtained at an institution of the Flemish Community:

  • Bachelor handelsingenieur in de beleidsinformatica (Leuven)

After preparatory programme

Students who have obtained an academic Bachelor’s/Master's degree that does not grant direct access can gain access through the Voorbereidingsprogramma: Master handelsingenieur in de beleidsinformatica / Master of Business and Information Systems Engineering (Dutch programme ).

Students with a degree obtained at an institution outside the Flemish Community:

Diploma requirements

The Master of Business and Information Systems Engineering programme is intended for holders of

· an academic Bachelor’s degree in business economics with a substantial quantitative, technological and IT component, or

· an academic Bachelor’s degree with a strong quantitative, technological and IT focus and with sufficient knowledge of business economics and management science.

A decision on admissibility will be based on evidence of the applicant's acquired competences in primarily the following domains: economics and business (36 ECTS); quantitative methods, technology and sciences (24 ECTS) and Information systems (including programming) (27 ECTS). All applicants must provide a course description of all relevant courses by filling in this document.

Language requirements

An exemption from the proof of English proficiency by means of the above-mentioned tests is possible for applicants with a secondary education degree or a higher education degree earned in Australia, English speaking Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, United Kingdom or the USA: the degree and transcripts suffice, provided they confirm that the entire study was completed in English.

Students who completed their studies in a satellite campus which is located in another country than the main campus of the university are not eligible for an exemption from the English language proficiency certificate.
