Variations of materials always have been with the development progress of the human history. And because the criteria for dividing the times are materials, the level of materials engineering is the measure of the technical standards. Materials science and engineering is the foundation for development of advanced industries such as precision machine, electrics and electronics, aerospace, energy, and environmental engineering. Macroscopic understanding and microscopic understanding on materials are needed for application of various materials, and connection with basic studies is also very important for diverse approaches to the applications of multiple materials. For this, Department of Materials Science and Engineering is cultivating professional manpower by establishing an educational system that develops understanding of basic studies as well as ability to design, compose and analyze for application.
